Energy Centre and Substation
In May, Taylor Wimpey secured a Hybrid Planning Consent for up to 1,730 homes and a wide range of community facilities on the former Wisley Airfield site, as part of proposals to meet the need for new homes and infrastructure locally.

Community-centered design
Designed as three distinct neighbourhoods around a community heart, Taylor Wimpey is proposing facilities needed for daily life, including shops, cafes, healthcare and education facilities.
Infrastructure
Before residential and other development can come forward, we will be delivering the Energy Centre and substation to ensure the development has the heat and electricity it needs and doesn’t rely on gas boilers. The application also includes a pumping station, parking and landscaping.
The Energy Centre
All residents will be given the opportunity to connect to the Energy Centre to provide efficient heating and hot water to homes and community facilities in all three neighbourhoods at the former Wisley Airfield.
By utilising a single Energy Centre we can make heating more efficient and cut carbon emissions across the former Wisley Airfield development. The system will also remove the need for each house to have a gas boiler.
The Electricity Substation
Taylor Wimpey will also apply for permission to build an electricity substation, which will convert the high voltage electricity from the transportation network, to a voltage suitable for domestic use. The substation is a fundamental piece of technical infrastructure and as such the design is largely fixed.

The applications will also include further detail of the electricity substation.
However, there is limited change possible to this design so it will not be the subject of consultation.
