Sustainability

Our Commitment

Our commitment to sustainability covers every aspect of our business. It means designing and building high-quality homes in thriving new communities where our customers can enjoy a healthy, active and sustainable lifestyle.

We are proud that the former Wisley Airfield will be one of Taylor Wimpey’s most sustainable and environmentally-friendly developments to date.

Our Sustainability Strategy

Creating Sustainable Homes

The development will use low carbon heat pump technology to heat and provide hot water via an innovative energy centre. Renewable energy will be generated on site through photovoltaic panels and there will be no gas boilers in any of the buildings on the development, significantly exceeding local planning policy in force in 2022.

Taylor Wimpey will design the homes to be Zero Carbon Ready using a fabric first approach to construction, creating highly-insulated homes with low-energy lighting and a selection of low-use water fittings. We will also provide an electric car charging point for each home.

A Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) will help to reduce flooding and promote habitat creation and cooling through ponds and swales, and the new trees will further shade the development.

Our Vision

Our vision for Wisley New Settlement is founded upon Guildford Borough Council’s six principles for Making Sustainable Places:

Community

Connectivity

Sustainability

Green Framework

Sense of Place

Innovation

Taylor Wimpey’s proposals for this application embed these principles as a ‘golden thread’ running through the proposals. The sustainability map illustrates some of the extensive sustainability features that are a key part of our proposals.

The ethos behind the developments seems to be to create an environmentally friendly, “park” feel to the development which I support.
